ALPO: Brand History and Heritage
The history of ALPO has its roots in late 19th-century Naples, when Fortunato Portolano founded an artisanal workshop dedicated to leather craftsmanship. It was with his eldest son Alberto that the company made a decisive leap forward: thanks to an advanced entrepreneurial vision, the family workshop evolved into a structured production and commercial organization, including a tannery, glove factory, and dedicated retail stores. In the 1940s, artisanal expertise moved to Milan, the beating heart of Italian fashion, when Fortunato, Alberto’s son, took charge of exporting leather and gloves. This transition marked the beginning of an international vocation that was fully realized in the late 1970s with the official founding of ALPO by Alberto Portolano. Offices and showrooms in Milan, combined with production in Inverigo, represent a perfect balance of creativity, organization, and manufacturing excellence. ALPO continues to grow by updating its production processes and investing in modern technologies, without ever abandoning the value of tradition. Collaborations with leading Italian and international designers have helped redefine the glove as a must-have fashion accessory, transforming it into a distinctive element capable of completing and enhancing every women’s collection.
ALPO Gloves: Premium Materials and Refined Design
The glove is ALPO’s iconic product, available in a wide range of lengths, styles, and finishes designed to meet different tastes and needs. The collections use exclusively high-quality materials such as nappa leather, deer leather, shearling, carefully selected hides, yarns, and eco-sustainable fabrics, as well as eco-fur, combining aesthetics, comfort, and sustainability. Every ALPO glove is the result of meticulous sartorial craftsmanship, designed to offer an impeccable fit, softness to the touch, and long-lasting durability. Collaborations with prestigious fashion maisons allow the brand to create exclusive accessories, conceived to complement women’s apparel with understated elegance and a contemporary character.
Customer Experience: How to Care for Leather Gloves
Proper maintenance is essential to preserve the beauty of leather gloves. For models made from washable leathers such as deer or wild boar, gentle cleaning can also be carried out at home by following a few simple steps. Wearing the gloves during washing helps maintain their natural shape. Gently rub them in lukewarm water with neutral soap, rinse with cool water, and allow them to dry in a dry environment, away from direct heat sources, to prevent the leather from stiffening. To restore softness and fit, it is advisable to wear the gloves while they are still slightly damp, possibly using a small amount of talcum powder. For more delicate leathers such as nappa, suede, or similar materials, it is preferable to use trichloroethylene instead of water.
How to Choose the Correct Size for ALPO Gloves
To identify the ideal glove size, simply measure the circumference of the hand at its widest point, excluding the thumb. It is best to use a tailor’s measuring tape, preferably marked in inches, to obtain an accurate measurement and ensure a perfect fit.
